Detailsview fired event itemupdating

OK The attempt to run the app had it crash with error "dv_Item Updating firing but not handled". Then double clicking it opened textboxes for the item field contents and changed thelinkbuttons to read update and Cancel. Doubleclicking New after several attempts eventually changed the details view to field headers with empty textboxes with the linkbuttons Insert and Cancel. Double clicking brought me back to the original detailsview. According to my step through of the code behind, the mode being changed to edit on the first single click.

There you have access to the object via the Event Args. New Object or something like that You can cast this property into the corresponding type and make your changes.

You do this by using the little helper in the upper right hand corner of the detailsview (in design mode), chose Edit Fields, Command Field, then convert to template (as in the picture below).

I set up a quick test which I think is similar to yours.

One complication I see is some of the built in functionality of the Details View.
